In his element...

When Garrett was little he would play camping. He would get out the trucks and drive them to camp and hunt. He would pretend he was shooting and then skinning a deer. He would make us put our hands out on our heads to look like horns and he would hunt us. And we had to play dead. It's in his blood...he is his father's son.

He was up early this morning, dressed in camo, armed with spears, a pistol, a bb gun, ammo, and a pocket knife, and he was on the hunt. Nothing was safe-plates, cans, cups, squirrels, birds, and deer were his targets. I came out of the trailer and he was gutting a squirrel-a root beer can. He actually snuck up on a deer, within ten feet, and shot it with a bb. It was so fun to watch him sneak from one tree to the next and crouch down to get a good shot on a cup. He would even use the wood pile as a blind and shoot between the logs. Grandpa Lynn has a rule though-no shooting animals on his property-he likes to have them around. Garrett was really struggling with not being able to shoot the birds.

We had a great time camping. My mom and dad and Brittnee were there too. We barbequed steaks and had dutch oven potatoes and the kids watched Ice Age with Grandpa. They rode the 4-wheelers around and went to the pond. We can't wait to go again.
